Overview:
The Rapid Response Team (RRT) Nurse is a pivotal member of the healthcare team, specializing in critical care and emergency response. This role is essential in identifying and managing patients experiencing acute clinical deterioration, ensuring timely and effective interventions to prevent adverse outcomes. The RRT Nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, utilizing advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to stabilize patients and provide high-quality care. This position demands a proactive approach to patient safety, continuous education, and quality improvement initiatives, contributing significantly to the overall performance and readiness of the Rapid Response Team.
Responsibilities:

Emergency Response:

  • Respond promptly to RRT and Code Blue activations.
  • Conduct immediate and thorough assessments of patients experiencing acute clinical deterioration, including checking vital signs, mental status, and other critical indicators.
  • Perform advanced life support procedures, including CPR, defibrillation, airway management, and administration of emergency medications.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills to stabilize patients, including the initiation and management of intravenous lines, oxygen therapy, and other emergency interventions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, respiratory therapists, registered nurses, and pharmacists.
  • During RRT/Code Blue communicate clearly and effectively with the healthcare team, providing detailed updates on patient status and interventions.
  • Participate in post-event debriefings to review the response and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist other staff members during emergency situations, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
Internal & 1199 SEIU:
    • Graduate of accredited nursing program(s).
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.

Non 1199 SEIU Candidates:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
    • Master's degree in Nursing, preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in critical care or emergency nursing.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with critical care patients.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Critical thinking, math, and computer skills; Works as a team player.
  • Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.
  • Decision making and problem solving.
  • Able to read, write, see and hear English.

Licenses, Certifications:

  • Current NY State RN License required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications from the American Heart Association, required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
  • An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions.
  • Full range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients.
  • Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
  • Frequently sitting at desk working on computer.
  • Ability to flex working hours.
