What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Engineer position at One Brooklyn Health?
The Chief Engineer provides the technical supervision for the development, production or operation of an engineering/plant operation function. This position leads the solution process, develops plans and implements changes to improve process, increase efficiency and ensure security and safety of staff and patients.
Responsibilities
- Manage the completion of projects and tasks while ensuring quality results and compliance with operating standards and policies.
- Develop plans and objectives to fulfill the engineering needs of the hospital.
- Review, monitor and revise policies and procedures to ensure efficient and compliant actions and decisions of the department.
- Approve purchase orders relating to the replenishment of stock and supplies. Responsible for inventory of materials and tools.
- Interview, hire and train new employees. Take appropriate disciplinary action as needed.
- Ensure servicing and inspection of the boiler and chiller plant operations. Ensure permits are current.
- May be required to assist or perform general maintenance tasks necessary to maintaining normal, consistent operations.
- Performs periodic rounds to all BFCC facilities.
- In case of a Hospital emergency, the employee must perform other duties necessary to ensure the welfare of patients, staff, visitors, and the efficient operation of the Medical Center.
- Serve on fire brigade.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent, bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of tens (10) years experience in an engineering function for a hospital or medical facility.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience in hospital or health care facility operations.
- Able to direct others, establish goals, monitor performance and ensure quality standards are met.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving skills and analytical abilities.
- Ability to fully utilize BHMS’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
Licenses, Certifications:
- NYC Refrigeration Machine Operator, NYC High Pressure steam operator.
- EPA approved certificate for refrigerant handling universal and certificate of fitness for bulk gases.
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
