Position Summary
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for accurate charge entry, insurance authorizations, and patient-facing billing support. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency with computer systems, and the ability to communicate clearly with patients regarding financial matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform charge entry (data entry) for office visits and surgical procedures using provider superbills
- Ensure accuracy of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers when entering charges
- Obtain and manage insurance authorizations for MRI imaging and prescribed medications
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage requirements as needed
- Collect copays and outstanding patient balances at the time of service
- Communicate with patients to explain billing, charges, and insurance-related questions in a clear and professional manner
- Address patient inquiries regarding statements, balances, and payment options
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure complete and accurate documentation
- Maintain compliance with billing regulations and practice policies
Qualifications
- Prior experience in medical billing or healthcare front-end/revenue cycle is absolutely necessary
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and insurance processes strongly preferred
- Experience with EMR/PM systems (Modernizing Medicine/EMA a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle high-volume computer-based work efficiently
- Excellent communication skills with a patient-focused approach
