Position Overview
We are seeking a Landfill Gas Technician to support the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS). This role covers the full spectrum of landfill gas field work, including wellfield operations, maintenance, monitoring, repairs, and the safe operation of heavy equipment.
Safety is our top priority. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, mechanically inclined, comfortable working outdoors in a landfill environment, and capable of working independently while following established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Landfill Gas Operations
- Monitor, adjust, and maintain landfill gas wells, headers, laterals, and control valves
- Measure and record gas quality and flow parameters (vacuum, oxygen, methane, temperature, etc.)
- Perform routine wellfield inspections and troubleshoot system issues
- Install, repair, and replace gas well components, piping, and appurtenances
- Assist with condensate and liquid management systems, including pump installation and maintenance
- Support flare, blower, and control system operations as assigned
Heavy Equipment & Field Work
- Safely operate landfill equipment such as dozers, excavators, skid steers, or loaders (as trained and authorized)
- Assist with well installation, header trenching, repairs, and site grading activities
- Perform manual labor including digging, lifting, cutting, and pipe assembly in varying weather conditions
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all site safety policies, OSHA standards, and company procedures at all times
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and required training
- Properly use PPE and gas monitoring equipment
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately
- Support environmental compliance and documentation requirements
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document field data, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Use handheld devices, tablets, or field logs to record work completed
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding system conditions and work needs
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in a landfill environment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical field work
- Strong commitment to safety and following procedures
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior landfill gas, environmental, utility, or industrial field experience
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Mechanical, plumbing, or construction background
- Familiarity with gas monitoring instruments
- OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER, or similar safety training

Work Environment
This position is physically demanding and performed primarily outdoors at an active landfill site. Exposure to weather conditions, uneven terrain, odors, and heavy equipment is expected.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
