We are seeking a Sales Director to lead and grow our advertising and sponsorship business across print, digital, video, social, events, and integrated marketing partnerships.
The Role
This is a leadership position for someone who understands modern media sales and enjoys building relationships, developing strategy, and leading a team. The Sales Director will oversee advertising revenue generation across all On The Water platforms while managing and mentoring a sales staff focused on delivering strong results for clients and partners.
The ideal candidate combines strong sales instincts with organizational leadership, strategic thinking, and a genuine enthusiasm for media, marketing, and the outdoor industry.
Responsibilities
- Lead, train, manage, and motivate the On The Water sales team
- Develop and execute revenue strategies across print, digital, video, podcast, social, events, and sponsorships
- Build and maintain relationships with advertisers, agencies, and industry partners
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and categories
- Collaborate with editorial, marketing, video, and audience development teams to create integrated advertising programs
- Track sales performance, forecasting, and pipeline activity
- Negotiate and close high-value advertising and sponsorship agreements
- Help shape pricing, packaging, and long-term sales strategy
- Represent On The Water at industry events, trade shows, and partner meetings
Qualifications
- 5 years of advertising, media, sponsorship, or marketing sales experience
- Proven experience managing and leading a sales team
- Strong understanding of digital advertising and integrated media campaigns
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Organized, self-motivated, and results-driven
- Experience with CRM systems, forecasting, and sales reporting
- Ability to build long-term client relationships and uncover new opportunities
- Interest in fishing, boating, outdoor recreation, or enthusiast media is strongly preferred
