CERTIFIED ASL INTERPRETERS
Washington, DC | Full-Time and On-Call Opportunities
On the Record, LLC is seeking experienced, professionally certified American Sign Language interpreters to support deaf and hard-of-hearing professionals in Washington, DC.
Position Overview
Selected interpreters will provide prompt, professional, real-time interpreting services in a professional workplace. Services will support daily communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing professionals, coworkers, leadership, members of the public, and other stakeholders.
Both regular full-time assignments and additional on-call/ad hoc opportunities may be available.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide simultaneous and consecutive ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpreting.
- Interpret during staff meetings, individual discussions, training sessions, presentations, telephone calls, video conferences, and other workplace activities.
- Accurately interpret technical and information technology terminology.
- Support effective communication among employees, leadership, stakeholders, and members of the public.
- Maintain the meaning, tone, intent, and confidentiality of all interpreted communications.
- Remain impartial and professional during all assignments.
- Record accurate service start and end times and provide required assignment information.
- Comply with the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct, applicable confidentiality requirements, and client policies.
- Travel to other approved locations for assignments when required.
- Maintain dependable attendance and provide consistent, uninterrupted support.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess a current certification from a recognized interpreter-certifying organization or state agency. Accepted certifications may include:
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification
- National Interpreter Certification
- NIC Advanced
- NIC Master
- Certificate of Interpretation
- Certificate of Transliteration
- CI/CT
- Comprehensive Skills Certificate
- Certification issued by a recognized state agency
Applicants must also:
- Demonstrate a minimum proficiency level equivalent to Level III.
- Possess the ability to interpret complex workplace conversations accurately and professionally.
- Be proficient in both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
- Be able to interpret technical and information technology terminology.
- Follow the NAD and/or RID Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee, client, and assignment information.
- Work effectively in person, by telephone, and through videoconferencing platforms.
- Be dependable, punctual, flexible, and able to maintain professional boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Level IV or Level V proficiency.
- Prior experience interpreting in a legal, technical, corporate, or professional office environment.
- Experience supporting professionals on a recurring or full-time basis.
- Experience interpreting technical or information technology-related discussions.
- Availability for occasional travel or short-notice assignments.
Location
Washington, DC
This is primarily an on-site position. Approved travel to other locations may occasionally be required.
Schedule
Services may be scheduled Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Regularly assigned interpreters will not exceed 40 hours per week. Specific schedules will be determined according to client requirements.
