Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Estimator will play a critical leadership role in managing all phases of the estimating process for commercial and industrial electrical projects from initial take-offs through project hand-off to Project Management. This position is a key player in the growth of the company and ultimately requires strong technical estimating expertise, financial and project acumen, and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and public-sector stakeholders while identifying new business opportunities.
Experience & Responsibilities
- 5 years of commercial & industrial electrical estimator experience is a MUST
- The Estimator is responsible for all project aspects. Including but not limited to:
- Electrical project Estimation - commercial & industrial – from the point of “take-off” to “hand-off” to Project Managers
- Commercial & Industrial electrical technical knowledge with lighting systems, electrical distribution equipment, emergency generation equipment, airfield lighting and underground installations and more
- General construction knowledge in excavation, heavy equipment, dealing with laborers, concrete work, and utilities
- Financial acumen and mindset are important; project p&ls, vendor pricing strategies, etc.
- Research, investigation, and systems aptitude – understanding of bidding websites (government & CIS websites), W.I.P. reports, and project management systems – about 20 new opportunity leads per day
- MUST be able to demonstrate ability to effectively interact and communicate regularly with GCs, State & City contacts, Federal level contacts, and of course various types of clients
- Participate in pre-bid site visits, and job meetings
- Prepare job budgets and scope of work
- Review and negotiate for subcontractor bids
- Bid development, preparation, and execution
- Establish, work closely with, and maintain professional relationships with vendors
- Establish, work closely with, and maintain professional relationships with current customers and potential clients
- The Estimator is a key person in Identifying new business opportunities via all channels within the position
- Conduct yourself both internally and externally as a key member of the company/team and always represent the company in a professional manner
- The Estimator needs to have experience and the auto-mindset of working with anyone and everyone both internally and externally in a collaborative and professional manner
- Automatically operate accurately and expeditiously to deliver first in class customer service
- The Estimator will play a key role in our weekly team drumbeat meetings (every Monday)
- MUST have the ability to read and update construction drawings/blueprints
Candidate Qualifications
- MUST have strong skill sets using estimating and project bidding software (we are using AccuBid, but similar systems are fine)
- Success in this role will require independent thinker with strong accountability
- MUST come with an automatic problem solver & solutions-oriented mindset
- Clear written and oral communication – internally and externally. We are a big teamwork shop!
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task without losing focus
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s in construction management or equivalent experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be authorized to work within the United States of America.
- Must be willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass a drug test, as required.
