Position Title: College Access and Success Advisor - Oswego County
About On Point for College
Counsel a caseload of high school juniors and seniors in the selection, application, and admissions process for colleges, universities or other post-secondary training, while providing advice and assistance on financial aid and related applications. Conduct one-on-one college counseling sessions to explore college options. This position is ideal for a motivated, student-centered professional who is passionate about expanding post-secondary, educational access, improving outcomes for underrepresented populations and On Point’s organizational mission.
Key Responsibilities
·Keep detailed records of student progress, which will be used for grant reports and to improve services.
· Knowledge or familiarity of college admissions processes & financial aid
· Strong counseling and mentoring abilities to provide individualized support to students.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff and external organizations.
· Emotional resilience and the ability to provide guidance during stressful periods such as college application season.
· Ability to collect and use data to inform decisions about college matriculation and other trends.
· Build strong relationships with students, families, high school and college staff, and community partners.
· Organize and facilitate college and career readiness workshops, events, and campus visits.
· Collaborate with On Point for College colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of wraparound services (transportation, housing, technology, tutoring etc.).
· Represent On Point for College at community events, school functions, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred;
- 2 years of work experience preferred within an academic setting
- Experience working with diverse and economically disadvantaged populations
- Passionate about On Point’s mission
- Proven ability to foster positive relationships with college representatives and stay updated on trends in higher education.
- Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, and career development resources
- Experience in youth development, mentoring, or workforce development using proactive approaches to address students’ academic challenges and personal development needs
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed/requested
- Proficiency with MS Office programs including PowerPoint
- On Point for College program completion is considered a plus and alumni are encouraged to apply.
Compensation & Benefits
Positions receive a laptop or desktop, mobile phone, scanner, and portable printer to use so staff can work from other locations (school districts, community centers, etc.).
Holidays include Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Friday after. We also offer paid leave from 12/24 thru 1/1 to full-time employees.
