Job Overview:
Sets up and operates a multi-unit offset sheetfed printing press and coordinates press team members interactions on the press, ensuring each job is run according to customer specifications and meeting internal and external deadlines; maintains quality control and reduces waste or press downtime. Follows departmental regulations and procedures to process customer jobs through the Department on a timely basis and within specified quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Examine job orders to determine quantities to be printed, stock specifications, colors, or special printing instructions. Ensure that press team members know job details to ensure proper press utilization.
- Verify that paper and ink meet the specifications for the job.
- Initiate and perform make-readies, including instruction to other press team members to assist.
- Perform press operations to operate and run press, such as make-ready, register color, and general press operations maintenance activities. Ensure press speed and quality are maintained.
- Coordinate efforts of all press team members to ensure press is set up and operated according to press schedule(s).
- Collect and inspect random samples during print runs to identify any necessary adjustments.
- Ensure quality standards required by customer are met and maintained. Perform press duties to achieve, maintain and monitor quality of signatures throughout the press run, including such things as: maintaining consistent color, registration.
- Pull proofs to check for ink coverage and density, alignment, and registration.
- Ensure proper color by setting color and adjusting color as required by quality requirements.
- Generate required records and waste reports or direct other press team members to complete documentation.
- Maintain waste within acceptable range as defined by management per the job.
- Ensure proper housekeeping on and around press and work area by directing other press team members.
- Ensure that all safety mechanisms (such as guards, interlocks, and other devices) are in proper condition and report any deficiencies to supervision immediately. Engage Lockout/Tagout if necessary. Keep team members safe and assure proper PPE and safety habits are being used.
- Practice safe work habits. Understand and follow company and industry safety rules. Wear appropriate safety equipment/PPE. Report any unsafe equipment or conditions to your supervisor.
- Attend and participate in required meetings and training.
- Perform routine maintenance on the press with press team members as required to maintain press functionality. Direct other press team members on necessary work to keep press operational.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and EPA federal and state rules, regulations, policies and guidelines and Company safety rules. Report any unsafe equipment or conditions to your supervisor.
- Must be dependable and able to maintain punctual attendance and be present at work the station when shift begins.
- Must be able to work overtime when required, and be able to cover other shifts when needed.
- Performs any other assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Digital Print: 1 year (Required)
- HP Indigo: 1 year (Required)
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and/or 5 to 7 years previous offset printing experience
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret work instructions. Read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment and methods and procedures in mechanical drawings and layout work. Able to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Mathematical skills:
Ability to perform arithmetic in standard practical applications related to the press and bindery workflow.
Other skills and abilities:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables at any given time.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
