What are the responsibilities and job description for the Packaging Engineer position at OMT-Veyhl?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Packaging Engineer is to work with internal departments to develop packaging for new and current product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with engineering to develop packaging for new product releases, attend team meeting, pilot builds, etc.
- Work with manufacturing to improve existing packaging through cost savings, warranty reduction, and ergonomic improvements.
- Create drawings for new packaging components.
- Maintain BOM accuracy through ECN process.
- Assign packaging to newly released parts through ECN process.
- Work with IT and manufacturing to maintain Packsize ordering software and make improvements where needed.
- Coordinate with packaging suppliers for purchased parts, quote new parts and coordinate testing.
- Perform packaging testing on-site when applicable.
- Determine relevant test methods and procedures based on product distribution.
- Communicate box size information to sales team when requested.
- Lead Packsize related changes to process, order spare parts, perform maintenance and fix related issues, contact for Packsize technical support and PM coordination with technicians.
- Technical contact for customer requests and issues related to packaging.
- Assist logistics/ shipping groups in packaging related projects.
- Develop custom packaging for customer orders as needed to meet shipping commitments.
- Assist BUILT group with packaging design support as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have experience with 3D-CAD
- SolidWorks experience preferred
- Associates degree in relevant field required, Bachelor’s degree preferred

- Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures in metals manufacturing environment.
- Self-starter with strong leadership, communication skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to management and customers.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations in standardized situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Must have the ability to problem-solve root causes.
