What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist position at Omphalos Lifesciences Inc?
Company Description
Omphalos Lifesciences Inc is building infrastructure for creating useful, executable, and extensible mechanistic models of living systems. We combine biological domain expertise, AI-assisted workflows, and simulation to develop models that can support scientific research and real-world decision-making across the life sciences.
Our approach is AI-native: AI accelerates the work, humans provide scientific judgment, and simulation is the arbiter of truth.
Role Description
We are hiring two Scientists with deep biological expertise and strong mechanistic reasoning.
These are not bench roles. You will translate biological knowledge, experimental evidence, and scientific literature into mechanistic models while collaborating closely with experimental scientists, computational researchers, partners, and prospective collaborators.
We are a small, growing team, so everyone contributes to both the science and the company. In addition to developing models, you will participate in conversations with external scientists and partners, understand their needs, and help shape new projects and collaborations. Previous business development experience is not required, but genuine openness to these activities is essential.
Responsibilities
• Develop, evaluate, and refine mechanistic models of living systems
• Synthesize biological knowledge, experimental data, and scientific literature into explicit model structures
• Work with experimental scientists to interpret results, challenge assumptions, and identify useful next questions or experiments
• Communicate scientific concepts, model behavior, limitations, and results clearly
• Engage with partners and prospective collaborators to understand their scientific needs
• Help identify valuable applications and shape potential projects and collaborations
• Explore new scientific fields and adopt new tools as the work requires
• Contribute broadly to the scientific and commercial growth of an early-stage company
Qualifications
• PhD in biology or a related life-science field
• Deep biological domain expertise and strong mechanistic reasoning
• Ability to critically evaluate and synthesize complex scientific evidence
• Excellent scientific communication and collaboration skills
• A science-first mindset, with technology used in service of meaningful biological questions
• Openness to working directly with experimental scientists, partners, and prospective collaborators
• Willingness to learn new tools and enter unfamiliar scientific fields
• Initiative, adaptability, personal accountability, and comfort with changing priorities
• Motivation to work in an ambitious, fast-moving, high-growth environment
Preferred, but Not Required
• Experience with protein condensation or aggregation biology and related human diseases
• Experience with multiscale human physiology or immunology
• Computational modeling or programming experience
• Experience with partnerships, consulting, customer discovery, or business development
Location and Engagement
Remote within the United States. Dallas, Texas is preferred.
Full-time or contract opportunities are available.
