What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator position at Omni Underground, inc.?
Omni Underground is seeking experienced Equipment Operators to support underground utility construction projects throughout California. Operators will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment in support of directional drilling, trenching, utility installation, potholing, restoration, and related construction activities.
This position requires individuals who take pride in their work, understand production goals, prioritize safety, and can work effectively as part of a crew.
Compensation:$25 - $33 hourly
Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators, backhoes, skid steers, loaders, rollers, and other construction equipment safely and efficiently
- Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and material handling operations
- Excavate around existing underground utilities using proper procedures
- Support directional drilling and underground utility installation operations
- Load and unload materials, equipment, and spoil as needed
- Assist with potholing, utility exposure, and utility crossings
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs
- Read and follow utility markings, plans, and project layouts
- Work closely with foremen, laborers, and drill crews to meet production goals
- Maintain clean and organized job sites
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of equipment operating experience in construction
- Experience operating backhoes, excavators, and skid steers
- Ability to safely work around existing underground utilities
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical labor when needed
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Underground utility construction experience
- Experience working around fiber, electrical, water, sewer, and gas utilities
- Experience supporting directional drilling operations
- Knowledge of trench safety and excavation practices
- Class A CDL
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
- Traffic Control Certification
