Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic II

Location: American Canyon, CA
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic II is a mid‑level technician responsible for independently performing mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on production and packaging equipment in a fast‑paced food manufacturing facility. This role plays a key part in reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting overall plant operations through proactive and efficient maintenance practices.

Key Responsibilities

Availability: Must be able to work weekends and overtime as required.

  • Perform routine, corrective, and preventive maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment including conveyors, fillers, labelers, pumps, and packaging machinery.
  • Assist with basic electrical tasks such as replacing motors, sensors, and wiring under supervision.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks and work orders within the CMMS system, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Support minor equipment installations, adjustments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Partner with production teams to minimize downtime and maintain high operational efficiency.
  • Follow all plant safety rules, GMPs, sanitation standards, and LOTO procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to Level I mechanics as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (food or beverage preferred).
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including bearing replacement, gear/motor repair, and alignment.
  • Familiarity with LOTO and other industrial safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in hot, cold, or wet environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical or trade school certification.
  • Basic understanding of PLC‑controlled equipment and automation systems.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and work from elevated platforms for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • May require use of a worker cage or lift equipment to access elevated areas.
  • Use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.) is mandatory.

Work Environment

  • Food manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, moisture, and liquids during equipment work.
  • Strong odors and fumes from hot peppers and other ingredients may be present.
  • Frequent exposure to wet/slippery surfaces and cleaning chemicals.
  • Fast‑paced environment requiring strict adherence to hygiene, safety, and sanitation protocols.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and on‑call shifts based on production needs.

Compensation

Pay Range: $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience.
