JOB PURPOSE / POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Estimator to join our Preconstruction & Estimating team. This role plays a critical part in the success of our business by preparing accurate, competitive estimates and proposals that support the company’s growth and operational excellence. You will work closely with internal departments, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure each bid reflects the true scope, risk, and value of the work.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and project requirements to define scope of work.
- Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Maintain organized records and documentation to support pricing decisions and assumptions.
- Participate in bid reviews and provide strategic input on cost-saving measures and constructability.
Technical Evaluation & Cost Analysis
- Evaluate alternative design options and recommend the most cost-effective solutions based on constructability, materials, and engineering.
- Identify and quantify potential risks and opportunities that could impact the estimate or project execution.
- Collaborate with operations and field personnel to validate approach, productivity rates, and schedules.
Collaboration & Support
- Work cross-functionally with project managers, engineers, and field leadership to develop accurate scopes and budgets.
- Support the development of preliminary budgets and conceptual estimates during early project phases.
- Assist with change order pricing and post-bid support when required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (KSA’s, Education, YOE)
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil, underground utilities, or transportation-related construction.
- Strong understanding of bid preparation, unit pricing, productivity analysis, and subcontractor coordination.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience in dry utilities, underground electrical infrastructure, or DOT/municipal projects.
- Experience using Heavy Bid, Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, Procore, P6 and similar construction management software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS (environment, noise level, public interactions)
- Office working environment with occasional travel to job sites.
- Frequent use of telephone, computer, email, and other electronic devices to communicate with internal and external clients, trade partners, or vendors.
- Lift, push or pull objects up to 25 pounds.
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of shift/workday.
- Job site visits require walking on uneven surfaces, stairs, and wearing standard PPE.
