Description
The Shipping & Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound logistics operations in support of aerospace manufacturing, MRO, and supply chain activities. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant movement of materials, parts, and finished goods while meeting customer, regulatory, and quality standards (AS9100, FAA, etc.).
The Manager leads shipping, receiving, and logistics personnel; enforces inventory control and documentation accuracy; and works cross functionally with Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Customer Service to support on time delivery performance and operational efficiency.
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $85,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping & Logistics Management
• Oversee all outbound shipments to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
• Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for aerospace parts and assemblies
• Coordinate shipments, including freight carriers, compliance, and customs documentation
Receiving & Inventory Control
• Oversee receiving processes, including inspection, verification, and documentation of incoming materials
• Ensure accurate receiving transactions and inventory updates within ERP systems
• Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation efforts
• Manage stock control and storage practices aligned with quality and traceability requirements
Compliance & Quality
• Ensure all shipping and receiving activities comply with AS9100, FAA, customer, and regulatory standards
• Maintain proper documentation, including certifications, packing slips, and traceability records
• Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and records
• Enforce shelf-life control and handling requirements for regulated materials
Team Leadership
• Manage, train, and develop shipping and receiving personnel
• Assign daily work, monitor productivity, and ensure adherence to procedures
• Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
• Address performance issues and support employee development
Cross Functional Coordination
• Collaborate with Purchasing, Production, Quality, Engineering, and Customer Service teams
• Support production schedules by ensuring materials are received and delivered efficiently
• Resolve shipping discrepancies, supplier issues, and customer concerns
• Communicate delays, shortages, or risks to internal stakeholders
Process Improvement
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Analyze shipping and receiving metrics (on time shipping, errors, inventory accuracy)
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and improve workflow processes
Systems & Tools Used
• ERP system - JobBOSS
• Shipping platforms and carrier systems (FedEx, UPS, freight brokers)
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Inventory and warehouse management systems
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
• 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, or warehouse operations (preferably in aerospace or manufacturing)
• Supervisory or leadership experience
• Strong understanding of shipping, receiving, and inventory control processes
• Knowledge of export regulations and shipping documentation
• Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in aerospace or AS9100 certified environment
• Familiarity with FAA, ITAR, or export compliance regulations
• Experience with inventory audits and continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma)
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to [insert weight requirement, e.g., 40–50 lbs]
• Ability to work in warehouse and manufacturing environments
• Occasional use of forklifts or material handling equipment (training provided or required)
