Technician Apprentice

Position Description

The Technician Apprentice is an entry-level technical role designed to build foundational skills in equipment repair, installation, and maintenance. Works under close supervision to learn fabrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. 

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks, including supporting cutting and fabrication projects
• Complete assigned jobs with minimal supervision while meeting established time standards
• Perform basic hydraulic repairs such as hose replacements, fitting repairs, and minor leak corrections
• Maintain DOT certification to perform annual inspections
• Perform all required shop attendant duties
• Assist technicians with equipment installations and repair tasks
• Learn and apply proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures
• Participate in company training programs and safety meetings
• Successfully complete required training and skill development assignments 

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma/GED
• 1 year mechanical and electrical aptitude
• Hold OTE forklift certification (obtained through on the job training). 
• Ability to read and understand basic diagrams and instructions
• Commitment to learning and growing technical knowledge
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow direction
• Must have your own basic set of tools 
• Verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Complete all duties and responsibilities assigned to Technician Apprentice

• Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
• Understand and accurately interpret/follow laws, rules, regulations, and other railroad/Omaha Track guidelines
• Able to change easily from one task to another of a different nature and deal with competing demands 
• Able to prioritize work load and tasks and take initiative.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse group
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, subject to all elements and conditions
• Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 50lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders
• Able to work overtime when demand requires
