Job Title: Project Coordinator, Common Sense Media

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12-month, Salaried / Exempt
Salary Schedule: OSAA Level 2 / Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable agreement.

Position Purpose: The Common Sense Media Project Coordinator supports educators in navigating change through balanced, evidence-based approaches that prioritize student safety, developmental appropriateness, and instructional effectiveness in an ever-adapting and innovative environment.
The role ensures Common Sense Media’s guidance on technology use, artificial intelligence, digital citizenship, and digital well-being is evident in the instructional practices and student interactions for our PreK–12 students. This position drives systems-level alignment, so Common Sense Media’s strategies are coherent, coordinated, and sustainable rather than fragmented.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of evidence-based instructional technology and digital learning initiatives through the lens of Common Sense Media in collaboration with Curriculum and Instruction Support, School Improvement, and IMS.
- Manage cross-functional projects that translate research and best practices into practical, classroom-ready guidance for educators and school leaders.
- Design, deliver, and support professional learning experiences, workshops, courses, toolkits, and resources—related to:
- Artificial intelligence in education.
- Digital learning and appropriate technology use.
- Screen time and healthy media balance.
- Online safety and digital citizenship.
- Partner with curriculum leaders to ensure Common Sense Media, artificial intelligence, and other resources align with content standards, developmental appropriateness, equity-centered practices, and district priorities.
- Promote, scale, and sustain the integration of digital citizenship and online safety across K–12 learning environments.
- Coordinate timelines, deliverables, communication, and stakeholder engagement for professional learning and implementation projects.
- Align digital learning and digital citizenship programs and tools with district initiatives, instructional priorities, and school improvement goals.
- Drive alignment across curriculum, professional learning, technology infrastructure, and policy to ensure coherent implementation of Common Sense Media guidance.
- Support continuous improvement by coordinating pilots, collecting educator and district feedback, and evaluating program effectiveness.
- Coordinate related initiatives to ensure guidance on AI, device use, screen time, and online safety is consistent, complementary, and mutually reinforcing across programs and platforms.
- Identify and address gaps, redundancies, and dependencies across initiatives to improve scalability, clarity, and educator experience.
- Partner with internal teams and external education leaders to integrate Common Sense Media resources into district-level systems, including instructional frameworks, professional learning plans, and technology adoption cycles.

- Track, monitor, and evaluate emerging artificial intelligence technologies to advise and advocate on potential opportunities, risks, and systemwide implications for digital media tools and programming.
- Provide training and ongoing implementation support to educators, school leaders, and staff to strengthen adoption of digital resources and guidance in instruction and curriculum.
- Raise awareness of digital citizenship, online safety, and healthy technology use through professional learning, communications, and partnerships.
- Support schools and districts in achieving and maintaining Common Sense Digital Citizenship Recognition.
- Serve as a liaison between schools and internal Common Sense Media teams to ensure educator needs and classroom realities inform program design and decision-making.
- Participate in biweekly Common Sense meetings and various events.
- Promote Common Sense education resources and training educators through Educational Service Units throughout Nebraska.
- Collaborate with IMS to ensure teachers/staff have access to appropriate technology tools and that these are used appropriately.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree, preferred. Coursework in areas of Education, Instructional Technology, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of successful experience in an educational setting is preferred.
- A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in administration and supervision is preferred.
- Experience in a multiculturally diverse urban setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of commonly used instruction platforms and tools (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Microsoft 365, Learning Management System (Canvas), etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Common Sense Media’s education curriculum and resources.
- Advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information technology.
- Exhibit leadership for digital citizenship.
- Exemplary skills in developing and facilitating multi-modal presentation and professional development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of education curriculum content, preferred.
- Exemplary organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- The skills pertinent to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with instructional staff, students, parents, administrators, and the community.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the board of education through the Superintendent of Schools or the Trustees.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads as well as basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and a fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Travel between schools and central offices will be required.

Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of central office administration in specified department in order to complete day to day tasks.

- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
- Regular attendance is important.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time exempt position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
Terms of employment are contingent upon:
- Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license as appropriate.
- A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
- Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
- Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS. (If applicable).
