Substation Civil Engineer II

Position Overview

As a Substation Civil Engineer II, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of OPPD's electrical substations - supporting foundation design, spill containment systems, structural load calculations, grading, and equipment layout. You'll also participate in project management activities across permitting, procurement, construction coordination, and closeout. This role is ideal for engineers to build depth in civil/structural design while gaining broad exposure to utility infrastructure projects.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Support civil/structural design for substation foundations, containment systems, and structural calculations that ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Assist with project management, including scheduling, documentation, procurement coordination, and construction closeout.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects that meet safety, operability, and cost-effectiveness goals.
  • Contribute to equipment layout and site development planning for new and modified substations.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a strong preference for Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Two years of engineering experience (internships/co-ops and/or master's degree may substitute for up to two years).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • General engineering knowledge and familiarity with the utility industry.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Engineer-in-Training certification
  • Experience with AutoDesk, Bentley MicroStation, and CAD tools
  • Advanced MS Office proficiency
  • Awareness of NESC, OSHA, ASCE, IEEE standards.

Non-Shift Work

Time Demands:

Non-Essential Position: T his position may be required to report to work beyond the normal shift to support the restoration of normal business operations.

This position m ust be available for overtime work and callouts as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.

Work Location:

Office: Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.

Field: Work will be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.

Work Environment: Choose all that apply.

Work will be performed in high traffic environments.

Will work around energies high voltage electrical equipment.

Will work in construction areas that present many physical hazards.

Will work at heights.

Will work in closed or confined spaces.

Physical Demands:

Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.

Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.

Grade: S4

Minimum: $90,759

Midpoint: $113,449
