Responsibilities


OPPD is seeking an electrical engineer to assist with developing 900 MW of new combustion turbine thermal generation units and converting 320 MW of existing combustion units to dual fuel capability. Initial responsibilities will include combustion turbine project engineering support for the design, procurement, construction, and startup activities. This position will also provide engineering support associated with operational readiness activities for the new combustion turbine facilitates including drawing reviews, system description reviews, equipment criticality evaluations, spare parts reviews, and creating necessary preventive maintenance tasks for the new equipment. Eventually this role will become more of a typical Power Generation Engineer providing engineering support primarily to those facilities. This role may also assist with electrical engineering support responsibilities at other existing or planned District generation facilities.

An experienced engineer that establishes standards for and leads the safe and reliable operation the District's electrical generating assets. The individual is assigned accountability for specific plant systems and equipment and provides expert technical on-support for station activities, plant modifications, performance analysis, technical review of operating reports, evaluation of system performance, and complex technical analysis to troubleshoot and resolve plant issues. Position is primarily based at one station but may be called upon to serve any of the generating stations. Performance is measured by the reliability, material condition, safety, economics, and performance of assigned systems and projects.


1. Independently executes all functions of system health monitoring including identification of critical systems or components required for reliable plant operation, identify trends and issues adversely affecting reliability and performance, and develop corrective action plans for resolution as part of the reliability centered maintenance program.
2. Evaluate present and future risks to safety, reliability, and equipment performance and issue professional technical recommendations based on their professional analysis and assessment.
3. Independently perform analysis or diagnostic evaluations and adapting and applying extensive and diversified knowledge principles in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
4. Develop and maintain expert understanding of assigned systems.
5. Applies project management principals to support the execution of large, complex, or time sensitive assignments or projects.
6. Develop and lead complex troubleshooting of for highly complex plant issues.
7. Accountable for thorough understanding and application of applicable codes, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
8. Leads multi-disciplinary teams of both engineers and craft in execution of projects as assigned.
9. Supports the development of entry level engineers through mentorship and guidance.

Qualifications


  • Four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certificate, or means for reciprocity within six months.
  • Five (5) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex engineering tasks and intricate studies as well as present the results.
  • Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities utilizing creativity, foresight and mature judgement
  • Strong communications, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong understanding of power plant system design, operation, maintenance and system interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, exercise flexibility and take responsibility for assigned work.
  • Understanding and application of applicable industry standards and codes of construction: ASME, OSHA, NFPA, etc.
Desired:
  • Familiarity and experience with Ventyx (Asset Suite), Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), Bentley MicroStation, PeopleSoft, SharePoint.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business.
  • Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Working experience in power plant engineering, operation, maintenance, or design.
  • Working experience with robust reliability centered maintenance program.
  • Thorough knowledge of generating stations and energy markets.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
