Key responsibilities include blueprint review, cost estimation, client communication, and site visits. At the same time, required skills encompass knowledge of fire protection codes (like NFPA), familiarity with estimating software, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience in the fire sprinkler industry.
Key Responsibilities
Review and Analyze Plans: Examine construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to understand the scope and requirements for fire sprinkler systems.
Perform Take-offs and Cost Estimation: Calculate material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs to prepare detailed, competitive bids for projects.
Ensure Code Compliance: the NFPA.
Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to gather information, provide technical expertise, and ensure project goals and budgets are met.
Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Evaluate and select suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiate favorable terms for materials and equipment to optimize project budgets.
Site Visits and Risk Assessment: Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather data, identify potential risks, and propose effective solutions to mitigate challenges.
Maintain Records and Reports: Keep accurate and organized records of project estimates, bids, and communications to support project tracking and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of fire protection systems, codes (NFPA 13, NFPA 14, etc.), and the construction process.
Software Proficiency: Experience with estimating software
Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
Experience: Proven experience in estimating for fire sprinkler systems, with a background in new construction and retrofit projects being a plus.
Education/Certifications: A technical degree or a High School Diploma/GED is often required; NICET certification in fire sprinklers is frequently preferred but may not be mandatory
