HR Generalist
Olson’s Pest Technicians | Yankton, SD
Olson’s Pest Technicians is looking for an HR Generalist to join our growing team in Yankton.
This is a new position designed to strengthen our administrative team as our company continues to grow. The role will focus on three primary areas: payroll, recruiting and providing day-to-day HR support for our administrative team.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, pays attention to the details and can be counted on to follow through. You’ll work closely with our leadership and administrative teams and have the opportunity to grow into greater responsibility as you learn our business and build relationships across the organization.
What You’ll Be Responsible For1. Payroll
Work closely with our existing team to learn our payroll process and gradually take on greater responsibility within it.
Our payroll includes multiple compensation structures, including hourly and salaried team members, production-based compensation, sales commissions and monthly production bonuses. This requires more than simply processing hours. You’ll need to understand how team members are compensated, verify information from multiple sources and identify discrepancies before payroll is processed.
Payroll has been handled internally at Olson’s for decades, so this will be a thoughtful transition built around learning the process, maintaining accuracy and developing confidence on both sides.
Responsibilities will include:
- Processing payroll accurately and on time
- Reviewing timekeeping, production, commissions and other compensation information
- Calculating and verifying variable compensation and bonuses
- Maintaining team member payroll information
- Processing pay, benefit, deduction and employment changes
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and documentation
- Answering team member payroll questions
- Identifying and resolving payroll issues
- Developing into a trusted resource for our payroll function
2. Recruiting
Help us find and hire people who fit both the position and Olson’s.
You’ll be involved throughout our hiring process, including:
- Creating and maintaining position postings
- Managing applicant flow through Indeed and our recruiting platforms
- Reviewing applications and screening candidates
- Coordinating video screenings and interviews
- Communicating with candidates throughout the process
- Coordinating employment applications and pre-employment requirements
- Assisting hiring managers throughout the selection process
- Preparing and coordinating contingent offers
- Maintaining accurate recruiting records and documentation
Our goal isn’t simply to fill open positions. We want to put the right people in the right seats while providing candidates with a professional and responsive experience.
3. HR Support for Our Administrative Team
Serve as the first HR contact for our administrative team and a resource for both team members and managers.
Responsibilities will include:
- Answering team member questions and helping resolve routine HR matters
- Supporting managers with team member situations
- Maintaining appropriate HR documentation
- Helping communicate policies and expectations
- Listening to team member concerns and determining appropriate next steps
- Recognizing when an issue needs to be elevated
- Handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
This part of the role requires good judgment. We want someone who listens well, remains objective and can balance the needs of our team members with the needs and expectations of the organization.
What We’re Looking For
The right person for this role will bring a combination of confidence, judgment, resilience and attention to detail.
You don’t need to come in knowing everything about Olson’s. We expect there will be a lot to learn. We want someone who asks good questions, takes the time to understand our business and builds trust through consistency and follow-through.
We also want someone who is comfortable having a voice. You should be able to offer a different perspective, receive direct feedback, work through disagreement professionally and have difficult conversations when the situation calls for it.
HR requires both empathy and resolve. We’re looking for someone who can bring both.
