Responsibilities
- Coordinate and plan funeral services, including event logistics, transportation, and ceremony arrangements to create meaningful experiences for families.
- Prepare and dress deceased individuals with care, applying cosmetics and performing embalming procedures in accordance with mortuary science principles.
- Handle heavy lifting and manual handling tasks safely when transferring or preparing bodies for viewing or cremation.
- Operate company vehicles for transportation of remains, families, and staff while maintaining safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, provide bereavement support, and guide them through the funeral planning process with empathy and professionalism.
- Ensure all sanitation standards are met by maintaining a clean and sterile environment within the mortuary facilities.
- Manage mortuary science procedures such as anatomy dissection, physiology knowledge application, and embalming techniques to preserve bodies respectfully.
- Oversee cremation processes in compliance with regulatory requirements while managing documentation accurately using funeral service technology systems.
- Plan and execute funeral events from start to finish, including coordinating with clergy or celebrants, arranging floral tributes, and managing client expectations.
- Maintain detailed records of all services performed, body movements, and client interactions to ensure compliance and quality assurance.
Experience
- Valid licensure as a Funeral Director issued by the appropriate state or regulatory body.
- Proven experience in funeral directing or mortuary science with a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, embalming techniques, and cosmetic application for deceased persons.
- Familiarity with cremation procedures and related health & safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive situations with compassion and professionalism.
- Knowledge of funeral event planning software and technology used within the industry for scheduling, record keeping, and communication.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple arrangements simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as heavy lifting safely and efficiently in accordance with sanitation standards.
- Excellent client communication skills to support bereaved families through difficult times effectively.
