The SQF Practitioner is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the company’s food safety and quality programs in accordance with SQF, HACCP, FDA, and other applicable food safety standards.
This position serves as a key leader in promoting a strong food safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, preparing for audits, and identifying opportunities to improve food safety practices throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the company’s SQF, HACCP, Food Defense, Recall/Recovery, Crisis Management, and other food safety programs.
- Lead SQF certification efforts, including preparation for and coordination of the annual SQF audit and other thirdparty or regulatory audits.
- Conduct inspections, internal audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions to identify and resolve food safety concerns.
- Develop and maintain food safety policies, SOPs, SSOPs, and required documentation to ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Provide employee training and coaching on SQF, HACCP, Food Defense, sanitation, allergen control, and other food safety requirements.
- Monitor and analyze food safety data, including temperature records, customer complaints, pest control, sanitation, and corrective actions, identifying trends and recommending improvements.
- Advise Senior Management on food safety performance, compliance requirements, risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- 27 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related food industry role.
- Certified SQF Practitioner required.
- PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification required.
- Working knowledge of SQF, HACCP, Food Defense, GMPs, sanitation, allergen control, and food safety regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, or a related field preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to conduct training, audits, investigations, and rootcause analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with employees and leadership at all levels.
