Weekend Museum Custodian

Old Sturbridge Village is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities across our large, historic campus. This position plays a key role in ensuring a positive experience for all guests, staff, and volunteers.

What You’ll Do

• Perform routine cleaning: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, break rooms, and public areas
• Complete floor care tasks including buffing, stripping, waxing, and operating floor‑care equipment
• Conduct deep cleaning and industrial cleaning following safety procedures
• Replenish and organize cleaning supplies; ensure proper chemical storage
• Assist with minor facility maintenance and report any issues or safety concerns
• Set up and break down rooms or event spaces as needed
• Promote a workplace that supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility

Essential Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Stand for long periods
• Walk long distances across a large campus with uneven terrain
• Work outdoors and travel between buildings in all weather conditions
• Regularly lift up to 30 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
• Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch/squat, reach, grasp, push, and pull as part of daily duties
• Perform repetitive motions related to custodial tasks
• Work early mornings (5:30 a.m.) and weekends as scheduled

Preferred Experience

• Custodial or facilities maintenance experience
• Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Experience with painting or porter services (a plus)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication skills and a dependable work ethic

Pay: $15.00–$16.50 per hour
Job Type: Part-time (8-20)
Schedule: Early morning (5:30 a.m. start) Saturdays and Sundays; can be additional weekdays as well if more hours are desired
