What are the responsibilities and job description for the PM Line cook position at Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse?
Line Cook (PM) – Old Southern BBQ | Shakopee
Old Southern BBQ is a scratch kitchen rooted in traditional barbecue—slow-smoked meats, house-made sides, and no shortcuts. We’re a quick-service restaurant, but we cook like a full kitchen. Everything from our mac & cheese to our dressings is made in-house, every day.
We’re looking for a PM Line Cook to join our team and own our sides station. This is a great role for someone who takes pride in doing the small things right—because at a BBQ joint, the sides matter just as much as the meat.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Running the sides station during service
- Preparing and executing hot sides for the shift
- Making cold sides and dressings from scratch
- Baking off muffins and keeping pars set for service
- Keeping your station clean, stocked, and dialed in
- Working with a team that values consistency, speed, and quality
Schedule
- 20–25 hours/week
- Monday- Thursday availability required (PM shifts)
- Typical shift: 4:00 PM – ~9:00 PM
What We’re Looking For
- Someone who works with urgency but doesn’t cut corners
- Pride in clean stations, organized prep, and consistent product
- Ability to handle a steady pace and stay focused during rushes
- Kitchen experience is great—but attitude and reliability matter more
What We Offer
- $17–$19/hour (based on experience) daily tip out from Front staff members
- Consistent, predictable evening schedule
- A team that cares about the food and each other
- Hands-on in-store training so you’re set up for success from day one
Catering Opportunities (Optional, but a great upside):
- Additional hours available through off-site catering events
- Opportunity to earn extra income through tips and service charges
- Great fit for team members who like being out in the field and representing the brand
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check (for catering opportunities)
- Comfortable stepping into a guest-facing role when needed
- We’re looking for someone with a strong, confident personality—someone who communicates well, takes ownership, and brings energy to the team
Why Old Southern BBQ
We’re not trying to be fancy—we’re trying to be really good at what we do. Good BBQ, made the right way, with a team that shows up and takes pride in it.
If that sounds like your kind of place, we’d love to meet you.
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Paid training
- Referral program
Application Question(s):
- Food safety is critical in our kitchen. Can you describe what the “temperature danger zone” is and how it impacts how you handle or store food?
(We’re looking for a basic understanding of safe food handling practices.)
- This is a fast-paced kitchen where attitude matters just as much as skill. Tell us about a time you took pride in your work or helped raise the standard for your team. What did you do?
