The Refuge Recovery Center is seeking compassionate, motivated, and dedicated Addiction Counselors to join our growing clinical team. Our mission is to provide high-quality, evidence-based treatment to individuals recovering from substance use disorders while fostering dignity, hope, and long-term recovery.

As an Addiction Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting clients throughout their recovery journey by providing individual counseling, facilitating therapeutic groups, developing individualized treatment plans, completing clinical documentation, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary treatment team. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping others, demonstrates professionalism and integrity, and is committed to delivering exceptional client care.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual counseling sessions and therapeutic interventions.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups.
  • Complete assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment goals as appropriate.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians, case managers, peer support specialists, and other treatment team members.
  • Maintain compliance with DHCS regulations, HIPAA, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, staff meetings, and ongoing training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience providing substance use disorder counseling and recovery services.
  • Knowledge of addiction, recovery models, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Experience conducting individual counseling and facilitating group therapy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations while demonstrating cultural humility and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation.

Preferred Certifications and Credentials

Applicants with one or more of the following are strongly encouraged to apply:


  • CADC-I, CADC-II, CADC-III
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification
  • Other equivalent behavioral health or addiction counseling credentials

$20 - $22 per hour
