Childcare Center at Starker Forest: Old Mill Center is partnering with Starker Forests to run a Childcare program on the site of Starker Forests. The program will be licensed as a Certified Family Child Care home.
Position Summary: The Child Care Director is the primary care provider for children. They lead and manage other staff at the Starker Forest Child care center. They are responsible for daily operations that meet the licensing standards for the facility. They provide guidance and support to the teaching staff and cultivate an environment in which children and their parents can feel safe, secure, and well-educated.
Job Duties Include:
- Works with and supervises children in the childcare facility.
- Keeps accurate files on employees, children, and activities.
- Manages work and break schedules of teaching staff.
- Oversees and manages food preparation and food serving activities in compliance with health department and licensing standards.
- Supervises and leads teaching staff.
- Orders and purchases teaching materials including toys, videos, books, educational aids, cleaning supplies, food, and first aid supplies within an approved budget.
- Organizes monthly schedules for field trips, special events, and holidays.
- Meets with teachers and parents to keep parents up to date on their child’s progress and development.
- Works with teaching staff to find ways to address any behavioral or learning problems.
- Ensures that the facility and staff adhere to all state and local regulations.
- Manages the staff hiring process in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in early childcare or education. Must have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Experience and Abilities: At least 5 years’ experience working with children in a teaching position or administering childcare. Must have Active R number with the State of Oregon and qualify for Step 8 on the registry. Excellent communication skills. Good computer skills. Able to pass required background checks.
Responsible to Whom: The Child Care Director is responsible to the Executive Director. They will also work closely with the Relief Nursery Program Manager who oversees childcare licensing compliance for Old Mill Center.

- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to communicate with parents, staff, and children.
- Must be organized and have a strong business sense.
- Knowledgeable about the latest trends and techniques in education and child-rearing, including discipline, encouragement, and communication.
- Working knowledge of theories and practices of behavioral therapy, child development, and parent-child relationships.
- Must have an appropriate code of ethics for working with young children.
- Must be flexible and able to react appropriately to changing circumstances.
- Must have strong crisis management abilities and be able to maintain a cool composure in times of crisis.
- Must have strong administrative and time management skills.
- Must possess excellent customer service.
- Must be professional and provide a public face for the childcare facility.
- Must have current Food Handler’s License
Work Environment
- Time is spent in the daycare facility with children plus time for desk work and supervision of staff.
- Must be able to take on classroom duties on a daily basis.
- Must be willing to spend long hours standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
