Project Scope & Engagement The Development Consultant is an independent professional engaged to design and execute revenue-generating strategies that support the club’s elite programs and scholarship initiatives. The Consultant functions as an external expert, providing high-level strategy and execution to meet specific financial milestones.
Primary Objectives:
- Strategic Coordination: Serve as the professional liaison between the Executive Director (Staff) and the Board Development Chair (Governance) to ensure fundraising initiatives align with the club’s operational budget and long-term vision.
- Board Activation: Provide the Board of Directors with professional tools, scripts, and prospect data to facilitate high-level donor engagement.
- Sponsorship Procurement: Independently identify, pitch, and secure corporate partnerships and sponsorships within the Bethesda area and the broader athletic industry.
- Event Management: Oversee the end-to-end planning and production of signature fundraising events, ensuring high-yield ROI and brand alignment.
- Donor Stewardship Systems: Design and implement a donor lifecycle process—from initial identification to formal recognition—ensuring a professional experience for all supporters.
- Campaign Direction: Execute targeted digital and seasonal fundraising campaigns, leveraging the OGVBC brand to engage alumni and the local community.
Qualifications:
- Professional Independence: Demonstrated experience as a successful fundraising consultant or business development expert with a portfolio of results in the $25k gift/sponsorship range.
- Strategic Diplomacy: Proven ability to collaborate with executive leadership and volunteer boards to achieve unified financial goals.
- Project Management Mastery: Expert-level ability to manage complex timelines, from gala production to multi-channel digital campaigns.
- Communication Excellence: High-level presentation and grant/proposal writing skills suitable for C-suite and community leader engagement.
- Regional Knowledge: Established familiarity with the Bethesda/DC philanthropic landscape and athletic sponsorship markets.
- Administrative Capacity: Consultant must provide their own equipment, software, and office space necessary to fulfill the contract requirements.
Contract Terms:
- Location: Remote / Field-based (Consultant is expected to attend key local meetings and events as needed to fulfill deliverables).
- Structure: 1099 Independent Contractor.
- Evaluation: Performance will be measured by the successful achievement of defined fundraising targets and project milestones.
