Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated 911 Dispatcher to join our emergency response team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for efficiently managing emergency calls, coordinating responses with law enforcement, fire services, and medical personnel, and ensuring public safety through effective communication and data management. This role requires exceptional communication skills, quick decision-making abilities, and a calm demeanor under pressure. Prior experience in EMT, law enforcement, or dispatching is highly desirable. The dispatcher will play a critical role in providing life-saving assistance and maintaining order during emergencies.
Duties
- Answer multi-line emergency phone systems promptly and professionally, providing clear and concise information to callers.
- Perform phone triage to assess the nature of emergencies and prioritize responses accordingly.
- Dispatch appropriate emergency services using GPS and GIS tools to locate incidents accurately.
- Maintain detailed and accurate data entry of call information, incident details, and response actions.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively when coordinating with medical personnel or providing instructions to callers.
- Provide first aid guidance over the phone when necessary until professional help arrives.
- Manage conflict situations with professionalism, demonstrating negotiation and conflict management skills.
- Use transcription skills to document calls accurately for future reference.
- Maintain security protocols to ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and communication skills to reassure distressed callers.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS teams to coordinate rapid responses efficiently.
Requirements
- Prior EMT experience or background in law enforcement is preferred but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of GIS, GPS technology, and multi-line phone systems is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, first aid procedures, and phone triage techniques is beneficial.
- Strong analysis skills for assessing situations quickly and accurately.
- Proficiency in dispatching procedures combined with excellent typing speed for efficient data entry.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Exceptional communication skills, including conflict management and negotiation abilities.
- Experience with transcription, data entry, security protocols, and maintaining confidentiality is required.
