About Us: The road to discovery, exploration and learning runs between two oak groves into The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University. Everything within the 100-acre plot - from its walking trails to its native plants - is meant to nurture research, promote discovery and inspire new ideas.
The Botanic Garden is a living, multidisciplinary laboratory currently used by several departments within Oklahoma State's Division of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources in addition to the local and regional communities at large. Practices and projects include drought response; water quality; sustainable practices and energy; and reptile and amphibian studies.

The garden manager is responsible for all management of the Botanic Garden including personnel management, planning/design of gardens for the coming year/years, and all aspects of horticultural maintenance of The Botanic Garden and associated areas such as the arboretum, nature trains, etc. The garden manager must work closely with The Botanic Garden director and the Oklahoma Gardening host to meet the horticultural needs of Oklahoma Gardening including maintaining gardens, planning new gardens, procuring materials, and overseeing garden installation. The garden manager is responsible for the management of one full-time assistant garden manager, 6-12 student workers/interns, and 10 volunteers.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Horticulture or closely related field (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Two years of management experience and three or more years of experience with garden maintenance, installation, and design are required as is an ability to manage a staff of paid and volunteer employees. The garden manager must be able to work in a team environment, cooperating with the director and the host of Oklahoma Gardening.
- Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid OK driver’s license and Oklahoma pesticide applicator’s license or be willing to obtain said license within 90 days of hire.
- Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Horticulture knowledge, personnel management, plant materials and their maintenance, irrigation maintenance and installation, design abilities, written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, supervisory skills and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Master's in Horticulture or closely related field
- One or two years of experience managing a public garden is preferred or director of horticulture.
- Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses: Valid OK driver’s license and Oklahoma pesticide applicator’s license.
- Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Horticulture knowledge, personnel management, plant materials and their maintenance, irrigation maintenance and installation, design abilities, written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, supervisory skills and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in a team environment. Fundraising, volunteer management and grant writing preferred.
