SUMMARY: Provide Life Skills/Academics training for students. Identify potential students from within the Department of Corrections general population. Calculate time remaining on sentence, determine tentative discharge date and set graduation date. Collect information to present to trades instructors for interview and student selection process, Deliver and facilitate instruction in a competency-based environment integrating academics, life/employability skills, and career and technical education within the correctional setting. Position based at Enid Community Corrections, Enid, OK.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents, as necessary. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions for groups of supervisors, customers, and the public. Ability to communicate technical concepts and thoughts to students and management, Ability to communicate with a diverse population.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical equations as applicable. (For example: calculating discounts, Interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume, and applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry,)
REASONING SKILLS: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and find solutions to several abstract and concrete variables.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES: Employee must qualify for Skills Center accreditation.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to efficiently operate a computer. Ability to utilize database management, word processing, and other software used by the school system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be physically able to perform tasks associated with instruction and related activities for the specific industry they were hired to teach with or without reasonable accommodation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Job functions will be performed within a correctional environment, working with incarcerated individuals. May be exposed to hazards related to the occupations being taught at the sites, may require traveling, including some overnight stays. Entry and exit from the workplace may be controlled by correctional facility.
OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: May require moving about extended distances in all weather conditions. May be exposed to caustic chemicals designed for performing occupational tasks or facility operation or cleaning.
Hiring contingent upon successful completion of background check.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalency
- Teaching experience
- OSHA certified instructor
- High-quality instructional skills, technical knowledge, teamwork and effective communication skills
- Provide high-quality career and technology instruction in accordance with effective teaching criteria to meet individual student needs.
- Utilize competency-based instructional model for delivery of instruction specific to career technology programs assigned.
- Maintain compliance with the program quality standards set forth by the Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education.
- Incorporate life and employability skills training into the integrated curriculum system.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with other local CareerTech and Department of Corrections staff.
- Participate in special projects and professional development activities as prescribed by the Skills Centers administration.
- Maintain professional work ethics to include appearance, management of time and leave, positive attitude and working relationships.
- Initiate requisitions for instructional supplies and curriculum materials necessary for instruction.
- Develop business/industry relationships to identify skill sets and employment markets with high-wage employment opportunities.
- Assist in the placement of students in training-related or other high-wage employment.
- Ensure program outcomes and individual students' performances are maintained at acceptable levels.
- Accurately prepare, maintain, and submit all required Skills Center School System Information Management System data and other required reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure safety and security of all areas in compliance with Department of Corrections and Office of' Juvenile Affairs regulations and all appropriate state and federal guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable American Correctional Association standards.
- Maintain an accurate daily tool/caustic log and accurately perform scheduled equipment inventory verification process.
- Maintain and document contact information with graduates following their release from DOC custody.
- Communicate issues affecting delivery of education, training, and student success to appropriate Skills Centers School staff members.
- Provide mentoring and assistance to peers and other instructional staff.
- Be familiar with and understand the Skills Centers Employee Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned.
