The Director of Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic communications, partnering with internal stakeholders to communicate the work of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, and the greater Oklahoma City region. This is a management role and will guide strategy and accountability for content and publications, social media, communications support of convention and sports sales teams, as well as paid media campaigns. This role works across all departments within the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and a wide variety of external stakeholders. 

  • Lead internal team members to execute communication programs to support organizational communications and marketing efforts.
  • Assists in developing annual communication plans and budgets.
  • Oversee development of collateral material, promotional programs, social media, direct mail and other activities as needed.
  • Oversees development of editorial calendars and communication plans, and execution of content on all platforms.
  • Oversees analysis of social media and online performance and guides dashboard tracking division activity.
  • Develop and implement planned content development phases to constantly and dynamically improve and enhance all owned-media channels such as e-newsletters, blogs, publications, social channels, internal communication channels, etc. 
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight of social media programs for engagement and promotion of OKC through the Chamber and Visit OKC channels.
  • Assist with implementation of organizational events, including developing and manage pre- and post-event communications to increase attendance and engagement in events and programs.
  • Work with the Media Relations Director to develop and maintain communication standards, style guides and resources to support brand advocacy.
  • Works with PR and advertising agency partners in the implementation of communication programs and activities as needed. 
  • Maintain a good working relationship with vendors.
  • Contributes to the total effectiveness of the department, communicating openly, solving problems proactively, offering creative ideas and working as a positive, engaged team member.
  • Implement feedback and measurement systems for marketing and communications programs.
  • Participate and support the organization’s strategic planning efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to carry out the responsibilities of the position including special assignments.
     
Qualifications:
  • College degree in marketing, mass communications or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a related position.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated strong project, time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent computer skills required include Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Asana, Emma/Campaign Monitor and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. 
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to lead people and provide direction.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Must be a detailed self-starter with a proven track record of success under general supervision and be able to work within a defined organizational structure.
  • History of good vendor management skills.
  • Must be able to travel independently.  Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required.  High amount of mobility is necessary.  Extensive travel may be required.
  • Position requires a professional, diplomatic demeanor and exceptional relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to lift/carry 30 pounds during trade show set-up.
