Job Summary:

The pharmacist position coordinates the drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for the pharmacy. The role is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient, nurse, and physician.


Essential Functions:


  • Reviews and interprets physicians’ orders for appropriateness to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities, or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications. Ensures that drugs are appropriately labeled, stored, dispensed, and utilized according to physicians’ instructions.

  • Dispenses prescriptions to outpatients in accordance with clinic policy and in conformance with regulations and laws dealing with the class of prescription, counsels patients about their medications, and maintains an accurate, up-to-date patient profile.

  • Maintains necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs, labels expiring CII medications, and processes returns as necessary.

  • Supervises prepacking of drugs and control procedures.

  • Provides drug information such as dosing, compatibilities and formulary substitutes to nurses and providers.

  • Maintains temperature logs on all fridges and freezers that house medication.

  • Participates in in-service education programs when requested and maintains 15 hours of CE per calendar year. Arranges for patients to obtain drugs in emergency situations.

  • Maintains a positive and instructional interaction with pharmacy and clinic staff.

  • Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes patient drug data entry and filling.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships; by attending meetings, lectures, in-services and seminars; by reading journals; and by complying with National Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.

  • Maintains balanced cash drawers and petty cash fund. Ensure that adequate change is available within the pharmacy. Verify cash register overages at the end of the day and prepare an accurate daily deposit.


  • Complete the CII order daily. Order appropriate quantities from both Cardinal and API to replace current and fulfill future orders.

  • Bundle, label, and file all controlled (CIII-V and CII) hard copies nightly.

  • Ensure that the pharmacy remains secure. Before leaving for the night, lock all doors, turn off all lights and computer monitors, lock the garage door, and set the alarm.

  • Responsible for inbound/outbound pharmacy prescription transfers.
  • Work with administration to develop and execute strategic plans for the pharmacy.
  • Work with administration in setting operational and financial goals for the pharmacy.
  • Provide guidance, leadership and coaching to local managers, supervisors and leads.
  • Communicate changes in regulations, compliance and, procedures.
  • Coordinate with HR regarding performance appraisals, promotions, and terminations within the pharmacy.
  • Responsible for pharmacy audits and licensing.
  • Responsible for staff planning and coordination for pharmacy.
  • Perform functions in a professional manner exhibiting courteousness and respect to team members, patients, and suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance.
  • Ensuring patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
  • Promoting a professional image by adhering to the Employee Handbook.
  • Check and resolve assigned tasks in EMR program.
  • Other duties as assigned by Administration.
  • Assisting co-workers as needed.
  • Recognizing when others need assistance and offering help when able.
  • Maintaining emotional control and diplomacy at all times.
  • Maintain open and positive lines of communication.
  • Adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrating sensible and efficient use of time and company assets.


Performance Requirements:

  

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

  • Must have an active Oklahoma pharmacy license that is in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Pharmacy Preceptor.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Physical ability to perform data entry and view computer screen for long periods at a time.


  • Daily standing, walking, bending, and maneuvering.

  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds or more to transfer and/or turn patient with and without assistive devices.


Environmental Conditions:


  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.

  • This is a safety sensitive position.


Travel:
Travel may be required.

Scheduled Working Hours:
Normal work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays. Hours may vary depending upon the needs of the position, department, and clinic.
