Salary: up to $50.96/Hourly, based on education and experience Full Time /Part Time: Temporary Work Schedule: Monday – Friday Primary Hours: 8-5, Approximately 20 hours per week. This position is designated as executive management as determined by the agency director and is exempt from the provisions of the Civil Service and Human Capital Modernization Act. Position Summary The Trauma/EMS Medical Director – Protocol Approval serves as the physician authority responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and approving emergency medical service (EMS) protocols to ensure compliance with state regulations, evidence-based practices, and patient care standards. This role is focused on providing Trauma – EMS subject matter expertise, clinical expertise, and protocol oversight, and the position will authorize staff National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) licensure. Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions Develop, review, and approve clinical protocols, standing orders, and treatment guidelines for EMS and trauma care in compliance with Oklahoma Administrative Code and state EMS rules. Ensure protocols are consistent with current medical evidence, clinical guidelines, and best practices. Authorize staff National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) licensure, ensuring compliance with certification requirements. Provide written recommendations or feedback to EMS services regarding protocol modifications or improvements. Collaborate with the Oklahoma State Department of Health EMS Division on protocol updates, policy revisions, and regulatory compliance matters. Serve as a consultative medical resource for EMS leadership regarding clinical questions or protocol interpretation. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications related to EMS protocol review. Document approvals, recommendations, and communications regarding EMS protocols in accordance with state records policies. Monitor clinical outcomes and participate in quality improvement activities, including trauma audits and EMS performance evaluations. Provide training, education, and consultation to EMS providers, trauma center personnel, and hospital staff. Represent OSDH in state, regional, and national EMS and trauma committees, advisory boards, and professional organizations. Being present at the office is an essential function of the job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Education and Experience Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Oklahoma. Experience with emergency medical services, prehospital care, and EMS clinical protocols. Understanding of state EMS regulations, national standards, and evidence-based medical guidelines, and Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills. Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Oklahoma EMS rules and statutes; of a variety of leadership practices, motivational techniques, management styles, and supervisory practices and principles Ability to apply necessary skills appropriately across a wide range of circumstances Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to build relationships within the agency and outside the organization Ability to think critically and prioritize the agency mission, vision, and values Ability to pull data from various systems to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for business and process improvements. Physical Demands and Work Environment Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. While performing the duties of the job, employees are required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computers and phones. Employees must be willing to complete all job-related travel associated with this position. Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.
