Okemos High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to lead our Boys Varsity Basketball program for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of the game, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. This seasonal position requires collaboration with school administration, parents, and the community to promote a positive and competitive basketball environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that enhances players' skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Organize and conduct daily practices, ensuring effective use of practice time and resources.
- Plan and strategize for all games, including scouting opponents and developing game plans.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, discipline, and academic success.
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and school staff regarding team progress, schedules, and expectations.
- Monitor and support the academic performance of student-athletes, ensuring they meet eligibility requirements.
- Coordinate with athletic department staff to schedule games, practices, and events.
- Uphold and enforce all school and athletic policies, including safety protocols and sportsmanship standards.
- Attend coaching clinics and professional development opportunities to stay current with coaching techniques and strategies.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to student-athletes, promoting personal growth and leadership skills.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience at the high school level or equivalent experience in competitive basketball.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school administration, parents, and community members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain prior to the season.
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends for practices and games during the season.
