What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Diet Technician position at OKC Zoo Career Site?
The Animal Diet Technician is responsible for the facilitation and preparation of animal diets and maintaining high standards of quality assurance and sanitation in all Nutrition Services.
Employment Status: Part-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay: $14.00 Hourly
Experience Required: Three (3) months of experience in animal diet preparation (volunteer work included) Or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.
Minimum Education Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Department: Veterinary Services
Direct Supervisor: Animal Diet Technician Supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility: Direct (0); Indirect (0)
Primary Work Location: Zoo Setting both indoors and outdoors.
Certification: Valid Oklahoma driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire and pass driver’s history check. Completion of OKC Zoo Global Academy training in the first six (6) months of employment
Other: This position is safety sensitive. It is subject to pre-employment and/or periodic background checks and drug testing. This position works around animals susceptible to specific respiratory diseases, thus is subject to annual tuberculosis testing.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Prepare animal diets as prescribed in an accurate and efficient manner; deliver to each area; may prepare food in advance as needed.
- Assure acceptable condition of inventories and rotate stock to minimize waste.
- Assure that food safety procedures are in place, with special attention focused on proper food storage and handling.
- Receive and inspect all shipments and deliveries in compliance with established protocols as well as perform inventory cycles.
- Clean and sanitize diet preparation and storage areas daily; sweep and wash the floor daily.
- Proper handling, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Break down boxes and take out trash as needed.
- Clean the cooler and freezer as needed.
- Aid veterinary and keeper staff as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and departments to meet the Zoo's goals and objectives.
- Safe operation of vehicles used within the division.
- Driving motor vehicles on grounds and occasionally within the region.
