Assists with and directs the daily operations for the maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection system structures, equipment and monitoring devices
- Ensures projects and repairs are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Assists with work and standby schedules; assists with work and project planning.
- Keeps supervisor apprised of progress and/or issues related to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of system equipment.
- Issues work orders for maintenance, restoration and construction of county water/wastewater systems.
- Ensures the practice of safety standards with use and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Tracks supplies and material stocks for ordering, ensures necessary parts are available and restocked as used.
- Assists with monitoring of cost/expenditure for adherence to the established operating budget.
- Prepares reports pertaining to staff, supplies, equipment and work performed.
- Reviews diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and other forms of documentation associated with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of system equipment.
- Performs the complete range of essential functions as assigned to lift station technicians.
- Maintains work records and files; reviews records and work orders for completeness and accuracy.
- Assists with required training.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible mechanical or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Experience in the installation and maintenance of sewer systems preferred. Experience in a lead/supervisor capacity preferred. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid Class “B” commercial driver license (“CDL”) with Tanker Endorsement. Must obtain Class ‘A’ Wastewater Collection Certification within one (1) year of employment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge. Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate trucks and various manual, electronic, and gas-powered tools and equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Requires the ability to traverse or stand for periods of time on irregular, uneven, or vibrating surfaces. Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Requires the ability to reach, extending hand(s) in any directions; ability to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s). Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Tasks include considerable bending, stooping, and climbing. Must be able to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where standardization exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute ratio and proportion. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
