Engineer Technician: Assists with the design and producing of graphics, engineering maps, plans, details and other drafting products. $23.24 - $27.89 hourly DOQ Engineer-In-Training: Provides engineering advice and expertise in the design, construction, and maintenance of county infrastructure. $66,539.20 - $79,847.04 annually DOQ Engineer II:Provides engineering advice and expertise in the design, construction, reconstruction and maintenance of water and sewer systems. $75,192 - $90,230.40 annually DOQ Engineer Technician/Engineer-In-Training/Engineer II:

  • Assists in project management for the planning, design and development of construction drawings, specifications and bid documents.
  • Designs construction plans and specifications for county engineering projects.
  • Prioritizes drafting projects and assists in Auto CAD drafting efforts.
  • Assists with the administration of contracts and grants on engineering projects including preparing progress reports and disbursement request packages.
  • Assists with long range planning of county infrastructure improvement needs.
  • Reviews and comments on engineering designs and specifications submitted by engineers, architects and developers.
  • Coordinates with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on all projects that impact county infrastructure; attends meetings, reviews plans, and works with FDOT consultants on infrastructure conflicts; prepares and/or coordinates with consultants on permits with federal, state and local agencies.
  • Designs and oversees the development of a database and computer aided mapping system for county utilities.
  • Assists in inspections of engineering projects and prepares comment letters documents all deficiencies not meeting county standards and specifications; re-inspects and ensures comments have been addressed.
  • Provides engineering and construction direction to general public and county staff.
  • Troubleshoots maintenance problems.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates and time schedules for construction projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Engineering Technician: Education, Training, and Experience: Associates Degree in engineering, electronics, CAD supplemented by three (3) years of technical engineering and drafting experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in CAD required. Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline preferred. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge, dependent on department assignment. Engineer-In-Training: Education, Training, and Experience: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field prior to date of hire. College seniors on track to graduate within 12 months may apply for this position. Water, wastewater, storm water or road design and construction experience preferred, depending on position. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Requires Fundamentals of Engineering certification and to be recognized as an Engineer Intern by the State of Florida. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge, dependent on department assignment. Engineer II: Education, Training, and Experience: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience in the field of water and wastewater design and construction, including management and coordination of large water and wastewater capital projects; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Must be a Florida Professional Engineer or have the ability to acquire licensure as a Florida Professional Engineer within six (6) months of hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge. Engineering Technician/Engineer-In-Training/Engineer II: Physical Requirements: Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any direction. Must be able to exert over one 100 pounds of force occasionally, 20 to 100 pounds of force frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently and tolerate stationary positions often. Must be able to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps and the like. Requires the ability to position self for work in confined areas, overhead work spaces, and for ground level work; including the ability to stoop, bend at waist, and crawl. Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any direction. Must be able to work for sustained periods of time to outside atmospheric conditions. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job and with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, calculate percentages and decimals. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be able to perform when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
