Provides administrative, human services and case management support for drug court cases. Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or a closely social science related field; supplemented by six (6) months of counseling, social work or related experience; experience with substance abuse field and/or case management preferred. A Master’s degree in any area cited above may substitute for the recommended experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Licenses and/or Certification: Requires a valid driver’s license. • Participates in the drug court status review hearings, staff meetings and attends drug court proceedings. • Identifies potential drug court clients and provides initial review and evaluation of cases to determine drug court eligibility. • Facilitates orientation for incoming clients, including the distribution and explanation of the participant handbook and its content. • Conducts a risk needs assessment of clients within two weeks of admission into the program. • Meets with clients to assess their needs, assists with referrals and develops an individualized service plan for each phase of the program; works closely with the treatment provider on the coordination of services. • Monitors clients’ compliance and noncompliance with drug court requirements and court orders. • Maintains regular contact with clients, treatment providers and probation officers. • Conducts urinalysis testing on clients as requested. • Refers clients to outside agencies for specific needs (i.e., social services, public assistance, housing, day care, education and employment). • Meets with potential and active clients at the jail. • Inputs, monitors and maintains the Drug Court Case Management System, as well as the Behavix Data System, capturing all required data elements and necessary statistical information relating to drug court per State and contract requirements. • Maintains active files for drug court clients; assists clients with form and document completion. • Conducts educational and life skill sessions with clients as needed. • Prepares and distributes reports and court dockets to the Drug Court Team. • Coordinates and prepares Drug Court Graduation events. • Establishes and maintains close working relationships with court personnel, professionals associated with the drug court program, community agencies, and with the public. • Updates supervisor on matters related to court, the public, procedures, or other agencies that require consideration, problem-solving or other action. • Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to operate office equipment, to include computers, copy/fax machines and related peripherals. Must be able to exert 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires periodic walking and standing, with occasional bending and stooping. This position may encounter situations that can occur in a home visit setting. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary work. Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read and interpret a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages used within the parameters of the job and with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. May require the ability to manage challenging situations effectively. Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; to determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute discount, profit and loss, ratio and proportion. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or public contact. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
