GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Supervises and coordinates the work of assigned staff engaged in maintaining airport facilities, runways, taxiways and grounds; ensures all airport facilities and systems are safe and properly maintained.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Supervises staff and prioritizes, coordinates, and assigns work orders for maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair of facilities and/or airport systems; inspects work; provides feedback and guidance on work performed.
- Supervises, maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools and vehicles according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
- Ensures staff compliance with all departmental policies and procedures to include implementation, review and updating of maintenance department controls and policies. Fosters standards, expectations and teamwork.
- Monitors and maintains staff on the job training records and staff proficiency in maintenance training programs to include the department’s Safety Training Program.
- Maintains and monitors maintenance contracts, scopes of work, records, and provides accurate reports pertaining to staff, supplies, equipment and work performed.
- Attends meetings and coordinates maintenance requests and priorities with airport tenants and businesses.
- Assists supervisor with maintenance and operating budget and monitors/controls of costs and expenditures.
- Ensures sufficient supply of inventory is ordered, stocked, controlled and accounted for.
- Provides instruction or training in all phases of maintenance,
- Keeps supervisor apprised of progress and/or issues related to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of system equipment.
- Operates a county vehicle as needed for travel between the three (3) County Airports.
- Assists with construction and maintenance activities.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the facility maintenance field, to include electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning systems equipment, and general construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Experience in a lead/supervisory capacity preferred. Prior airport maintenance experience preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds to constantly lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures, to give, receive and oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to read a variety of moderately complex records, policy and procedure manuals, codes, etc. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Requires the application of principles of influence systems and synthesis functions.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate decimals and percentages.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers. Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines.
