Rooms - Bell Captain

The Bell Captain provides assistance with guest needs, hotel needs and department needs. Provides service to our guests at a consistent level in accordance with the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa standards and regulations.  Provides a warm, hospitable greeting and salutation to all guests, realizing that the bell staff creates the first and last impressions of the guest experience.  Ensures that all resort guests are oriented to the property professionally and offered services in accordance with their needs.  Ensures that all guest items and hotel items are treated with care and respect and that safety is of the utmost importance.  Supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates Bell Staff, ensuring that all procedures are performed to the hotel’s standards.  Performs the daily responsibilities of these positions and assists where necessary to ensure optimum service to guests and visitors.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential: 

• Minimum one (1) year previous experience in a similar position at a Four or Five Diamond Hotel.

• Valid California Drivers License with a clean driving record.

• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.

• Ability to perform  basic mathematical computations.

• Ability to write legibly. 

• Proven ability to motivate a team.

• Experience training staff members.

• Clear thinker in pressure situations and exercise good judgments.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  

Desirable:

• College coursework in hospitality or travel industry.

• Previous experience as Bell Staff Supervisor or Door Attendant.
  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Handle incoming and departing guests: greet, park, retrieve cars, and provide luggage assistance, ensuring the security of vehicles in valet.

2. Promote positive relations with all guests and visitors ensuring guest satisfaction.

3. Act as first point of contact in attempting to resolve guest complaints. Contact manager when further resolution is necessary.

4. Promote and enforce standards of excellence and professionalism.

5. Work well under pressure, prioritizing and delegating work to staff and coordinating departmental functions.

6. Maintain knowledge and ensure bell staff has knowledge of:

   1. Scheduled daily activities.

   2. Daily arrivals and departures.

   3. Hotel features, services and amenities.

   4. Hours of operation for each outlet. 

7. Enforce hotel’s standards, policies and procedures, coaching Bell Staff when necessary.

8. Assist in the training of new and existing Bell Staff. 

9. Advocate work practices that promote accident prevention.

10. Conduct performance evaluations for Bell Attendants.

11. Prepare work schedules weekly, adhering to budget goals.

12. Prepare and submit payroll records and tip distributions.

13. Properly handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information.

14. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas including Club Car fleet.

15. Ensure that all pertinent information is documented in the log book daily.
