Social Studies Instructor High School

The Career & Academic Development Institute Accelerated High School seeks a passionate, student-centered Social Studies Instructor committed to helping opportunity youth achieve academic success. The ideal candidate believes all students can learn at high levels, builds meaningful relationships, and creates engaging learning experiences that prepare students for college, career, and civic life.

Applicants must hold a valid Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in Social Studies or an appropriate certification recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Essential Responsibilities

The Social Studies Instructor will:

• Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in social studies, history, civics, government, economics, and related disciplines.
• Develop engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking, inquiry, and real-world application.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs of students while maintaining high expectations for all learners.
• Analyze student assessment data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and accelerate learning.
• Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes belonging, student engagement, and academic success.
• Maintain effective classroom management and establish clear expectations that foster respect, responsibility, and student ownership of learning.
• Recognize and address barriers to student achievement while collaborating with counselors, administrators, families, and support staff to ensure student success.
• Evaluate students' academic growth through formal and informal assessments and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, academic expectations, and interventions.
• Administer state, district, and classroom assessments in accordance with school and district guidelines.
• Utilize instructional technology and district-approved platforms to support teaching, learning, and student recordkeeping.
• Participate actively in professional development, collaborative planning, school improvement initiatives, faculty meetings, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
• Collaborate with colleagues to implement School District of Philadelphia curriculum and instructional best practices.
• Foster culturally responsive learning experiences that recognize and celebrate students' diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
• Support English learners and students with varying learning needs through appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Salary

$50,000–$55,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
