Job Description Summary
The Communications Liaison welcomes all patients and visitors to Labor & Delivery. They ensure patient and visitor needs are met and apply unit visitor policies. They support the throughput of L&D Triage by arriving and admitting patients, stocking and turning over triage rooms, and other clerical duties.
Responsibilities And Duties
50%
Greets patients. Acts as liaison between staff and patients. Maintains constant communication with patients and families throughout their stay in unit. Ensures family s needs are met within unit. Works collaboratively with other departments to optimize patient and family perceptions of unit.
25%
Identifies areas and situations to maximize utilization of resources available to family. Determines any unmet needs of patients and/or families.
10%
Works with volunteer staff and provides support to staff to ensure appropriate coverage in unit.
5%
Data collection: Acquires and evaluates data elements regarding program utilization. Monitors quality of program and reviews patient surveys to follow-up on potential customer service issues, as necessary.

Assists in development and creation of patient/family education materials. Works with other hospital resources to promote and utilize materials as needed.

Performs other unit related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED (Required)BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
Additional Job Description
Communication and customer service skills, conflict resolution, and diversity training. One yr. previous hospital experience recommended.

Greets patients and visitors at unit entrance. Arrives patient physically and in medical record. Gathers information to facilitate timely and accurate arrival for all Labor & Delivery patients. Applies unit visitor policies for all visitors.

Maintains supply levels in Triage, turns over beds between patients, runs quality checks on department equipment, etc.
10%
Procedure scheduling and materials coordination: obtaining or planning for language services as needed, verifying upcoming procedure schedules
10%
Data input: manual delivery logs, infant security system admission, chart assembly, record transfers via secure portals, faxes, scanners
10%
Performs other unit support duties as needed.
