Duties
- Operate and set up Blanchard grinders, CNC grinders, and manual grinding tools to shape and finish metal components with precision.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to ensure accurate machining processes.
- Program CNC grinding machines using G-code and M-code, ensuring optimal tool paths and machine performance.
- Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and precision measuring instruments for quality control inspections.
- Prepare tooling setups, select appropriate grinding wheels, and perform machine calibrations for consistent results.
- Conduct machine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize grinding parameters for efficiency improvements.
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste, improve workflow, and enhance overall productivity.
- Collaborate with engineering teams using SolidWorks and CAD software for design verification and tooling development.
- Perform manual machining tasks on lathes or milling machines when necessary to support production needs.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work processes, inspection reports, and quality records.
Experience
- Proven experience operating Blanchard grinders, CNC grinders (including CNC lathe and milling machines), or similar precision grinding equipment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code for grinding applications.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software like SolidWorks and other design tools for interpreting blueprints and creating tooling setups.
- Ability to read mechanical blueprints accurately and interpret GD&T specifications for precise machining outcomes.
- Experience with measurement techniques using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, micrometers, and other precision instruments in a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical aptitude with understanding of machining tools, tooling selection, machine setup, and maintenance procedures.
- Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, geometry calculations relevant to machining tolerances.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices to promote efficiency in production workflows.
- Prior experience working with metal materials in a manufacturing setting involving CNC machining or manual grinding processes is preferred.
