QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification: Ohio Pupil Services license/Speech Language Pathologist
State of Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Education: Minimum of Master’s Degree
Experience: Minimum of the supervised internship
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech, hearing, and language problems.
Identify children with suspected speech or language disorders.
Provide thorough assessment and diagnosis and treatment of speech, voice, hearing, fluency, and language problems.
Participate in staffing, evaluation team meetings, and IEP meetings when relevant to the child.
Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual needs of children with speech, hearing, and language delays.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members in the implementation of therapy strategies through researched based activities and accommodations in the student’s daily activities.
Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families regarding speech, hearing, and language problems.
Maintain lists of referred, screened, assessed, and placed students.
Keep thorough ongoing records and individual educational plans for those students receiving therapy.
Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for speech, and language improvement.
Provide professional development and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech, hearing, and language problems.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills
Possesses a basic understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Such other duties will be assigned by the OVESC Superintendent.
