Contract: 180 Days Salary: Based on years of experience and education Location: Ewing School - 1701 Colegate Drive, Marietta, Ohio 45750 Age Group: Students K-12 QUALIFICATIONS: Certification: Ohio Pupil Services license/School Nurse Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree Experience: Minimum of two years experience in acute care nursing with focus on pediatric/family nursing desired RESPONSIBILITIES: Have contemporary knowledge of all of the following: Physical and psychosocial development of all children served. Pathology, physiology, symptoms and symptoms, treatment and nursing management in the school setting of common acute and chronic physical conditions of childhood. Emotional behavioral and learning disorders of childhood. Common chronic and disabling conditions of childhood and the nursing role therein. National, state, and local laws governing children with disabilities and their families, community-based service providers, chronically ill students, and the rights of the disabled. The role of the nurse with the child with a disability. The effect of a disability during childhood on the child and family. The roles of members of the individualized educational program (IEP), multidisciplinary (MDT), or interdisciplinary (IDT) team. Conduct a full nursing appraisal of every child referred to the OVESC with special health needs including: A health and developmental history. A health and physical assessment including vision, hearing, nutritional development appraisals. Observation in the itinerant, classroom, or play-based school setting. Elicitation of supporting medical data as available. Review of all health records. Communications with health care providers. Attend meetings, present findings, nursing diagnoses and recommendations, and participate in the writing of the MFE, IEP or other health plans. Conduct appropriate assessments prior to periodic IEP reevaluation or upon teacher’s request. Develop and implement a nursing plan of care for each child as needed. Delegate nursing services (DNS) and activities based on the child’s individual program plan to the teacher. Direct and supervise the deliverance of Delegated Nursing Services by the teacher, and to assure that the DNS are delivered in accordance with accepted nursing practice. Develop an orientation and training program for all teachers performing DNS. Provide information, teaching, support and counseling to parents, children, family, staff, and community at large regarding health care and development problems. Function as a case manager and advocate for the child with special health needs. Perform skilled nursing procedures as necessary. Function as a school-home liaison in child/family health concerns. Make home visits, as necessary, to further data collection, planning, implementation and/or evaluation for child care. Complete required documentation and records of the child's assessment plan of care and progress/outcomes. Act as a resource person to school staff regarding health education and health education materials. Promote child, staff, and school health safety, wellness and disease prevention through health education utilizing the Healthy People 2030 health objectives as a guide. Research and apply the results of research findings to the development of policies and procedures in the OVESC, to guidelines for child care program development, professional development, and to staffing. Pursue continued professional growth and development through education and national certification. Annually review and revise the job description and school nursing policies to maintain accordance with Standards of Care in Nursing. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Such other duties as assigned by the OVESC Superintendent.
