About the Role

We are seeking a Hospice Team Physician to provide compassionate, evidence-based medical care to patients living with advanced and life-limiting illnesses. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other members of the hospice team to promote comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

The Hospice Team Physician provides clinical guidance to the interdisciplinary team and helps ensure that patients receive appropriate symptom management, medication oversight, and care planning throughout their hospice experience. The position also includes opportunities to collaborate with community providers and support the ongoing education and development of clinical staff.

Position Information

  • Full-time position based in Dayton, Ohio
  • Coverage includes the Southern Ohio service area
  • Patient care may take place in homes, facilities, and hospice inpatient settings
  • Combination of in-person care and telehealth services
  • Weekend and on-call coverage is required
  • Must meet credentialing requirements for the Southern Ohio region
  • Occasional travel throughout Ohio may be required

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with serious and terminal illnesses
  • Develop and oversee individualized plans of care
  • Provide guidance regarding pain and symptom management
  • Review and manage medications as clinically appropriate
  • Participate in hospice interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning
  • Collaborate with attending physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other care professionals
  • Provide clinical oversight and support to advanced practice providers
  • Assist with accurate and timely medical documentation
  • Support hospice staff through clinical consultation and education
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to terminal diagnoses and eligibility
  • Participate in quality improvement and other clinical initiatives

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree
  • Current, unrestricted Ohio medical license
  • Active, unrestricted DEA registration
  • Hospice, palliative medicine, hospital medicine, or related clinical experience preferred
  • Experience caring for patients with advanced or terminal illness preferred
  • Board certification or eligibility in Hospice & Palliative Medicine preferred
  • Current CPR certification
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to use electronic medical records and other computer-based systems effectively
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving history
  • Automobile insurance meeting applicable state requirements
  • Ability to travel between patient locations as needed
  • Ability to work scheduled on-call and weekend rotations
  • Successful completion of required employment screening and background checks
