What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position at Ohio Ready Mix Inc?
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment
- Listen for unusual sounds from machinery/equipment to detect malfunction
- Ensure that concrete plant and related equipment is operating properly at all times which includes but not limited to:
- Perform timely and professional troubleshooting tasks such as electrical, mechanical, welding, pneumatic, and hydraulic.
- May need to troubleshoot three phase, single phase, control circuits, motors, and test fuses.
- May need to troubleshoot level probes, limit switches, switches, photo eye and proximity switches
- May need to troubleshoot and repair gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, elevators, gates, fans, dryer, dust collectors, baggers, etc.
- Welding (arc) and use of cutting torch to repair or fabricate as needed.
- May need to troubleshoot and repair air compressors, air dryers, air cylinders, air valves, and air solenoids.
- Inspect plant for greasing and check oil fluid levels; grease and oil as necessary
- Ensure all material handling equipment is working properly taking action to bring equipment back into operator parameters when necessary
- Responsible for the preventative maintenance for all equipment in the plant (including building preventative maintenance) in accordance with the PM schedule or as directed.
- Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at all times wearing all required safety equipment whenever necessary/required; follow all safety guidelines at all times
- Perform basic, minor and major preventative maintenance
- May perform simple tasks including the movement of parts and materials (this may include use of equipment such as a forklift or loader)
- Building maintenance and/or repair of doors, docks, plumbing, heating, HVAC filter replacement, light bulb replacement, etc
- Must be able to efficiently use wrenches, pliers, socket sets, screwdrivers, punches, hammers, and other hand tools, as well as drills, sawsall, grinders and others.
- Must be able to identify parts needed to repair equipment
- Must be able to climb to heights not exceeding 100 feet and safely operating a lift up to 100 feet.
- Take the initiative to start new tasks or projects or operate out of their area of influence.
- Regular communication with the plant manager and direct supervisor regarding issues at the plant, parts inventory, troubleshooting, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by maintenance manager
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics (preferred)
- Ability to utilize basic mathematical concepts
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated heights
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Ability to climb, push, pull, bend, twist
- Ability to get in and out of loader and other equipment
- Proficient in use of electrical multimeter (preferred)
Education / Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (A or B) with clean driving record
- 1 years of experience in plant maintenance or related industry
Work Environment
- Exposed to weather elements/conditions year round
- Work near moving mechanical parts
- Periodic elevated noise levels
- Subject to heights and confined spaces
