What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Handler - Part-Time position at Ohio Geese Control?
Ohio Geese Control provides our clients with reputable, highly trained professionals to design a custom geese management program guaranteed to deliver results in a timely and professional manner, with Migratory Bird specialists who are well educated and courteous.
Essential Job Functions:
- Part-time is typically 2 – 3 days a week (8-hour days)
- Maintain geese control by servicing clientele
- Drive, walk and handle Border Collie
- Ensure safety of all involved
- Maintain hourly and daily log of services rendered
- Log number of geese at each location
- Maintain hours worked
- Maintain daily and weekly mileage logged on vehicle
- Maintain cleanliness of dog, car and equipment
- Pass and maintain ODNR nuisance wildlife management certification
Required Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record
- Successfully pass and maintain ODNR certification
- Drive (including on the highway) 50 – 150 miles a day
- Walk long distances, up/down steep pond banks, varied and uneven terrain, on/off paths, while maintaining control of dog
- Drive and walk in inclement weather conditions
- Ability to lift and or carry 30 – 40 lb. Border Collie
Experience:
- Experience with and a love of dogs
- Exceptional time management and organization skills
- Ability to effectively build and foster good relationships
- Detail-oriented and ability to foresee and manage adverse situations
- Accept and follow guidelines provided by management
- Ability to learn ways to handle dog, geese, and job at hand
