Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing surgical appointments, ensuring that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate. This role requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of medical terminology, and proficiency in various electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Surgery Scheduler will play a crucial role in enhancing patient service and supporting the overall efficiency of our surgical operations.
Duties
- Schedule surgical procedures and manage the surgical calendar to optimize operating room utilization.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for procedures.
- Review medical documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to scheduling.
- Communicate effectively with patients, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals regarding surgery details.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure confidentiality.
- Utilize EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms for scheduling and documentation.
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks, including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and insurance verification.
- Provide clerical support including filing, typing, and managing multi-line phone systems.
- Address patient inquiries with professionalism and provide exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred; familiarity with surgery scheduling is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, health information management, and coding practices (CPT, ICD).
- Proficiency in EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks; experience with Eaglesoft or Dentrix is beneficial.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply to enhance patient communication.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; typing proficiency is essential (10 key typing preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
